2013년 5월 1일 오늘의 곡은 New Edition의 Cool It Now입니다. 뉴에디션은 고 휘트니휴스턴의 전 남편이었던 바비브라운이 있던 그룹으로도 유명하지요. Cool It Now는 1984년 발표된 이들의 두번째 앨범 New Edition의 타이틀곡으로 빌보드차트 4위까지 오르며 큰 히트를 기록합니다. 리드보컬 랄프 트레스번트의 얼굴과 어울리지 않는 미성의 목소리가 아주 매력적인 곡이지요. 혼자서 랩과 리드 보컬까지 다하는 능력자였습니다. 바비브라운은 그리 활약이 없었네요. 그래서 그런지 바비브라운과 랄프 트렌스번트의 갈등으로 바비브라운이 탈퇴하고 자니길이 들어오게 됩니다. 그후에 HeartBreak앨범을 내고 인기를 얻고 바비브라운또한 솔로로서 인기를 끌게 되지요.  이후 랄프와 자니또한 솔로로 나오고 나머지 멤버들은 Bell Biv Devoe라는 그룹으로 각자 인기를 얻고 90년대초를 화려하게 장식합니다. 각자의 개인활동에 치중하면서 그러면서 해체 아닌 해체를 맞게 되지만 1996년에 다시 재결합하며 새롭게 시작하기도 하지요. New Edition 하나의 그룹을 통해 R&B의 역사가 이루어졌다고 해도 과언이 아닐 정도로 히트곡들이 쏟아진 셈이죠. 그러나 저는 초창기 New Edition이 정말 좋습니다. 1집 Candy Girl 또한 명곡인데요. 꼭 들어보시길 바랍니다. 즐감하세요!
